Kyrgyzstan remains the only country in the region with partially free Internet. International non-governmental organization Freedom House published its annual Freedom on the Net 2022 report.
Analysts note that Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, where the authorities restricted access to mobile and wired Internet during the protests, remain countries with not free Internet, while Tajikistan and Turkmenistan are not included in the ranking at all.
Kyrgyzstan has 53 points out of 100 possible. Freedom House experts note that the figure is not high due to the adoption of the law of the ex-deputy Gulshat Asylbaeva «On protection from inaccurate (false) information». It significantly limits the freedom of the Internet.
The country’s score was also affected by the arrests of journalists and bloggers for their publications on the Internet.
Countries with free Internet include the Baltic States, Canada, Georgia, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Iceland, Italy, Armenia, Argentina.
The level of Internet freedom in the United States has improved slightly. The score of Russia fell by nine points and reached a record low.
