Food security of Kyrgyzstan to be 85 percent provided by 2025

By 2025, the food security of Kyrgyzstan will be 85 percent provided. The Minister of Agriculture, Askarbek Dzhanybekov, told at a press conference in Bishkek.

According to him, in order to achieve the goal, all 16 departments directly related to agriculture were returned to the ministry in 2020.

«This decision was necessary for the development of the agro-industrial complex, it allowed us to quickly solve the problems of farmers. We have chosen six areas of work: food safety, organic agriculture, digitization, adaptation to the impact of climate change, development of agro-clusters and the development of new markets for export. We set ourselves the task of providing the country with the most necessary socially significant food products by at least 85 percent by 2025,» the official said.

He reminded that for the first time, 19,100 tons of high-yielding crop seeds were distributed among farmers. At least 1,100 billion soms were allocated for water management.

«This year we have dramatically increased the supply of agricultural machinery to our farmers. In 2021, agricultural machinery was provided for 1,286 billion soms, in the current year — already for 2.5 billion. As a result of supporting agriculture, the grain yield in the republic was high and reached 32.4 centners per hectare,» Askarbek Dzhanybekov told.

According to him, the Kyrgyz Research Institute of Animal Husbandry and Pastures has been modernized, new equipment, technologies and breeding animals have been brought in. The process of accreditation of the International Organic Products Certification Center has begun. All this creates an opportunity for domestic farmers to sell agricultural products at a higher price.
