President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov arrived in Uzgen district of Osh region to meet with local residents. The police confirmed the information to 24.kg news agency.
The head of state is accompanied by the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev and Prosecutor General Kurmankul Zulushev.
According to Azattyk, meeting of the President with residents of Uzgen district of Osh region on the issue of Kempir-Abad reservoir is currently taking place in the building of the district administration.
Dozens of citizens who are standing outside demand an open meeting with the head of state and provision of complete information on Kempir-Abad reservoir.
Journalists also report that many residents were not allowed to participate in the meeting. According to them, only specially trained people were allowed to enter the building. They gathered near the district administration building and hold slogans: «Authorities, hands off Kempir-Abad!», «People will make a decision on Kempir-Abad issue!», «It is better to give life than land!» and «Cancel protocols».
It should be noted that the residents of Uzgen have repeatedly opposed the protocol signed in Tashkent on several sections of the border, including Kempir-Abad reservoir. Chairman of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev had previously met with local residents and promised to revise the agreement with Uzbekistan.
