Volodymyr Zelensky applies for Ukraine's accelerated accession to NATO

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that he has filed an accelerated application for NATO membership. UNIAN news agency reported.

«De facto, we have already passed our way to NATO. De facto, we have already proven compatibility with the standards of the alliance. They are real for Ukraine — real on the battlefield and in all aspects of our interaction. We trust each other, we help each other, and we protect each other. This is the alliance. De facto. Today Ukraine is applying to do it de jure according to the procedure that will be consistent with our value for the protection of our entire community. In an expedited manner,» the media outlet quoted Volodymyr Zelensky as saying.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and the heads of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions signed treaties on the accession of new territories to the Russian Federation.

Referendums on joining Russia were held from September 23 to September 27 in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine. According to their results, 99.23 percent of voters voted for joining the Russian Federation in the DPR, 98.42 percent in the LPR, 93.11 percent in Zaporozhye region, and 87.05 percent in Kherson region.

Fighting in Ukraine continues. The Russian special military operation began on February 24, 2022. The number of casualties among the military and civilians is growing. Many countries have imposed severe sanctions against the Russian Federation.

The Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a «partial mobilization» on September 21.
