Over 92,000 residents of Batken region return home - Emergencies Ministry

At least 92,521 residents of Batken region, previously evacuated from the border conflict zone, are returning home. Press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan reported.

According to the ministry, 136,770 people were evacuated to safe areas. At least 36,242 of them were evacuated for temporary accommodation in the homes of residents of other local villages, 4,207 citizens are in special evacuation centers, 3,800 Batken residents left for other regions.

At least 5,301 people were evacuated from Jekendi rural area of Chon-Alai district, Osh region.

Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 198 victims, 62 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
