Security Council: We did not expect Tajikistan to attack with such aggression

«We did not expect friendly Tajikistan to attack our country on such a scale and with such aggression,» Secretary of the Security Council of Kyrgyzstan, Marat Imankulov, said today at a round table.

According to him, militants also participated in the armed Tajikistan’s invasion of Kyrgyzstan. This suggests that the Central Asian region is under threat. It is necessary to sound the alarm.

Marat Imankulov also told that back in the spring there was evidence that extremist and terrorist organizations in Afghanistan revived and became more active after the start of events in Ukraine.

«We expected attacks from them, we were ready for this. We are members of one defensive organization — the CSTO. Such challenges and threats to our region come from outside now. What were we supposed to do? We had to stand on a par with our Tajik colleagues and other members of the organization and repel the threats together. Ensure security together. Instead, we get aggression from this republic,» he said.

The Secretary of the Security Council also noted that the first case of the use of heavy equipment at the border occurred in 2014. Then there was also a conflict with Tajikistan. The neighboring country used mortars against the Kyrgyz border guards. Then it became customary for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan. The defenseless civilian population suffers from this.

Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 198 victims, 59 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
