Invasion of Kyrgyzstan: Mines, unexploded shells to be neutralized in Chon-Alai

Work to detect, neutralize and clean the border areas of unexploded shells, mines, ammunition and other explosives will be carried out on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border in Chon-Alai district of Osh region and in Batken region from September 20. The Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The places, where demining will be carried out, will be cordoned off and taken under guard.

According to the Border Service, the work has been coordinated with the relevant state structures of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

In this regard, the Border Service calls on the population of border villages and cities to remain calm, not to succumb to provocations and to clarify any information with border units or local authorities.

Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 183 victims, 59 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
