Interior Ministries of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan to patrol Khujand-Kanibadam road

The Ministries of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan agreed to jointly patrol Khujand — Kanibadam road in Leilek district of Batken region. The head of the Department of Public Security Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Nurlan Ismailov, announced at a briefing.

According to him, the parties reached an agreement, according to which a joint patrol of 60 police officers from the two countries will work on the specified territory.

«In general, the social, political and criminogenic situation in Batken region remains stable. A joint operational headquarters of law enforcement agencies and internal affairs bodies works. It is responsible for ensuring public order and safety of citizens. Patrol squads have been formed to ensure the safety of homes and property of our citizens in those villages from where the residents were evacuated,» Nurlan Ismailov told.

He added that a special interdepartmental commission consisting of representatives of local authorities, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as the Prosecutor General’s Office and Military Prosecutor’s Office began working in the villages that were shelled and looted.

«Unfortunately, in the first days, when the situation was unstable and tense, we could not get into some villages and prevent the deliberate destruction of citizens’ property. A special interdepartmental commission is being formed to investigate all these facts. Active work will begin today on documenting the assessment of the damage caused,» the head of the state service told.

According to him, to date road safety is fully ensured by the police patrol services, Tort-Kocho section is open for traffic without restrictions. At least 2,000 police officers are working.

Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 134 victims, 36 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.

Presidents Sadyr Japarov and Emomali Rahmon agreed to ceasefire on September 16. The Tajik side violated the agreements.
