The number of foreign citizens crossing the border of Kyrgyzstan (arrival) for the first half of 2022 amounted to 2.6 million. The National Statistical Committee provided such data, citing the State Border Service.
Compared to the same period in 2021, the figure has doubled. At the same time, citizens from the CIS countries account for 97 percent, or 2.5 million, of the border crossings.
The largest number of arrivals are citizens of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Russia.
More than 74,000 people arrived in Kyrgyzstan from countries outside the CIS. This is 1.8 times more than last year. Citizens of Turkey, Germany, the United States, India, China, Mongolia and Saudi Arabia accounted for the largest number of border crossings.
As of July 1, 2022, more than 100,000 business entities (legal entities and individuals) working in the tourism sector were registered in Kyrgyzstan. More than 87 percent of them are engaged in individual entrepreneur activity.
The gross value added created in the tourism sector in January — June 2022, according to preliminary estimates, amounted to more than 10 billion soms, or 3.1 percent of GDP.
