A new sub-variant of COVID’s Omicron was detected in New Delhi. NDTV reports.
The new sub-variant has been identified as BA-2.75, which was detected in a study report of 90 samples sent for genome sequencing. BA-2.75 has a high transmission rate and affects people who already have antibodies and those who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus.
According to official figures, more than half a billion people worldwide have been infected with COVID-19 at least once. Doctors note that now it is not so much the course of the disease that is dangerous, but a severe long-term post-COVID syndrome.
«For many, it lasts up to a year or more. It is accompanied by severe asthenia, neurological symptoms and a number of other manifestations, including consequences in the form of thrombosis, risks of stroke, heart attacks, progressive bronchopulmonary pathology, cardiovascular diseases,» Natalya Dobrynina, the chief visiting endocrinologist of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan, said.
She noted that the elderly, people with chronic diseases are at risk. Vaccination will help prevent these complications and avoid severe course of the disease and death.
