At least 151 people have died in closed institutions from 2019 to 2021 in Kyrgyzstan. Bakyt Rysbekov, Director of the National Center for Prevention of Torture, announced at a parliamentary meeting.
According to him, out of the total, one person may have died after being tortured.
«From 2019 to 2021, a total of 151 people died in closed penal institutions. Of these, 41 died from cardiovascular diseases, 25 — from diseases that are not specified, 19 — from community-acquired pneumonia and coronavirus. Some 11 prisoners were diagnosed with cirrhosis, eight — with HIV, and other seven had various diseases. One person died, presumably from torture, in 2020,» Bakyt Rysbekov said.
