President of Uzbekistan talks over the phone with Vladimir Putin

Uzbekistan’s president had a telephone conversation with Russia’s leader. The Kremlin press service reports.

«At the initiative of the Uzbek side, Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. They discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation, including the implementation of agreements reached following the Uzbek leader’s visit to Russia in November 2021. The heads of state exchanged congratulations on the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan,» the statement reads.

According to the Kremlin, the parties confirmed mutual interest in further strengthening of strategic partnership and alliance between the two countries and expansion of mutually beneficial relations in political, trade and economic, humanitarian and other spheres.

«Vladimir Putin informed about the progress of the special military operation to protect the Donbass republics. The president of Uzbekistan spoke with understanding of the position and actions of the Russian side,» the press service said.

Earlier, the Foreign Affairs Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov spoke out about the situation in Ukraine at the 24th plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis. «The situation developing between Russia and Ukraine is of serious concern to us. We are supporters of a peaceful resolution of the conflict through political and diplomatic means. We are against military actions, violence,» he said.

The Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister added that the country would continue to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. «Uzbekistan has recognized the independence, sovereignty and inviolability of Ukraine. We do not recognize the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics,» he said.
