Kyrgyzstan has sufficient stocks of oil, flour and sugar. Head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) Boobek Azhikeev announced at a press conference.
There is panic among the Kyrgyzstanis in connection with the conflict in Ukraine, he said.
«The last three days have shown how the entire population can be overtaken by panic. Sugar has completely disappeared from store shelves. Our analysis showed that the wholesalers have the sugar. But since it was sold out at retail, there is expected confusion», he said.
Boobek Azhikeev added that, as of today, the State Material Reserves Fund is full more than ever.
«The reserves had been squandered and stolen for 30 years, now, for the first time, we have replenished the food reserves. Therefore, the population should have no reason to worry. Any attempts to unreasonably raise prices for essential products will be severely suppressed. Food security is under control of the Cabinet of Ministers and the head of state. So I can say with confidence that there are stocks of flour, sugar, vegetable oil, and they are more than enough,» the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.
The official urged citizens not to panic.
