Special operation in Donbas: Leaders make statements, NATO to hold meeting

NATO will hold an emergency meeting on Thursday due to the escalation of the situation in Ukraine. RIA Novosti reports.

The US, its allies and partners will also impose tough sanctions against Russia today. Joe Biden also said that the USA would continue to help Ukraine.

The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said Moscow would be held accountable for the military operation in Ukraine.

German Chancellor Scholz called Russia’s actions against Ukraine’s territorial integrity a violation of international law.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Vladimir Zelensky that he hoped Ukraine would resist.

Earlier it was reported that martial law was declared in Ukraine.

On the night of February 24 Vladimir Putin officially announced start of a military special operation in Donbas.

An extraordinary meeting of Russia’s Security Council was held in Moscow on February 21 to discuss the issue of recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decree.

Earlier, the US leader Joe Biden signed a decree banning trade and investment with the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. The document was published on the White House website.

On February 22, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered an address and said that Kiev was seeking peace and would continue diplomatic work in this direction following Russia’s decision to recognize the Donbas republics.
