Laying of the adit within the construction of a tunnel through Kok-Art pass is completed, construction of the main tunnel continues. The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan reports.
It is specified that the height of the tunnel crown is about 9 meters, width — 10 meters, which allows to provide free two-lane traffic of the second technical category.
For comparison, the Kolbaev tunnel on Bishkek — Osh highway is 6.2 meters wide and 4.5 meters high. In parallel, the adit with a height and width of 4 meters, which in case of emergency will allow to evacuate the people and vehicles, is also being constructed.
Laying of the adit has been completed, and work on the main tunnel continues. Completion is planned by the end of 2022.
The project is being implemented at the expense of the funds provided by Exim Bank of China and with the help of China Road and Bridge Corporation, which is involved in many road construction projects throughout the Kyrgyz Republic. The Kyrgyzdortransproekt design institute is the supervising consultant for the construction.
In the peak construction season, the contractor employs about 550 workers as well as 400 units of construction equipment. Through the efforts of these experts, about 116 kilometers of asphalt concrete pavement has been laid and active work is being carried out at Kok-Art tunnel.
