Health Ministry merges Mental Health and Narcology Centers in Osh

The Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan merged the Osh Interregional Narcology Center and the Regional Mental Health Center. Press center of the ministry reported.

The head of the ministry Alymkadyr Beishenaliev visited the organizations on Monday as part of his working trip to Osh region. He met with the staff of the centers and announced the order on reorganization of the two institutions. They will be merged into the Osh Regional Center for Psychiatry and Narcology.

«The merger will not entail negative consequences for the employees. All doctors, nurses and nursing assistants will continue to work. The administrative and managerial personnel will be cut, but they will get compensation,» Alymkadyr Beishenaliev said.

It was also noted at the meeting that there would be no reduction in bed capacity. At least 170 beds will be retained for psychiatric patients, 50 — for drug addicts.

The ministry added that, according to international standards, psychiatry and narcology refer to one nosological unit as mental illnesses. According to the international classification of diseases, they are in the same section. WHO experts also recommended the merger of these services in the healthcare development strategy of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2030.
