A group of experts on catching and neutering stray dogs arrived in Bishkek from India. They will take part in a program to control the population of stray animals, implemented in the capital of Kyrgyzstan by the French-Kyrgyz Ecotourism Association (AFKE) jointly with the Brigitte Bardot Foundation. Press service of the Association reported.
«The project involves capture of 1,000 stray dogs in Karagachevaya Roscha (Karagachevaya Grove) area. Then they will be delivered to the Manas University clinic, where they will be neutered and vaccinated. Neutering will be carried out using a new method, allowing releasing the dogs two days after the operation,» the statement says.
The experts who arrived in Bishkek from India are employees of the veterinary service of the government of the Sikkim state. They will conduct training for Kyrgyz veterinarians.
«About 20 veterinarians from Bishkek and Kara-Balta will take part in the training. The training will take 10 days. Participants will receive certificates,» the Association informed.
In case of a positive result and approval by the Bishkek City Hall, the neutering program will cover not only Karagachevaya Roscha area, but also the entire capital of Kyrgyzstan in the future.
Karagachevaya Roscha was chosen because the Kyrgyz-French Ecotourism Association (AFKE), together with the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) and the Bishkek City Hall, have launched the Ecopark project there in 2018. It aims to restore 41.1 hectares of the park’s territory and its biodiversity.
Within the framework of the project, rare animals of Kyrgyzstan have appeared in the Ecopark: turtles, pheasants, falcons and others. At the same time, a large number of stray dogs in the park attacked the birds. This was one of the reasons for the project to manage the population of stray dogs in the park area.
