As of November 1, about 11,000 people with HIV infection were officially registered in Kyrgyzstan, 10,395 of them are citizens of the republic. At least 2,385 people have died since the beginning of the epidemic. Director of the Republican AIDS Center Umut Chokmorova announced at a round table discussion.
According to her, 63 percent of people living with HIV are men, 37 percent are women.
«If we take data on the transmission routes, then vertical (from mother to child) accounts for 2.7 percent, sexual — for 52 percent and parenteral (through blood) — for 40 percent,» Umut Chokmorova said.
She added that 700-800 new HIV-positive people are registered in the country every year. «Compared to last year, there is a slight increase. But this is due to the fact that many people could not be tested due to the coronavirus pandemic. We are working hard this year,» Umut Chokmorova stressed.
