Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan signs resolution on liquidation of Financial Police

A decision was made to liquidate the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes (Financial Police) of Kyrgyzstan. The Prime Minister Ulukbek Maripov signed the corresponding decree.

As the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers explains, according to official data, the level of shadow economy is 130 billion soms, or 23.6 percent of GDP, while independent experts note that the share of the shadow economy reaches from 24 to 43 percent of GDP, which testifies to inadequate performance of its functions by the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes.

In addition, independent experts and representatives of the business community voice complaints about the activities of the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes in terms of corruptness of this body, as well as its illegal interference in business activities.

According to Article 3 of the Law on Authorized Body in the Field of Combating Economic Crimes, in the interests of internal economic security, the service, in addition to combating economic and corruption crimes, must predict, prevent and ensure internal economic security, as well as ensure the rights and interests of business entities.

However, objectively, the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes to date performs only punitive functions not taking measures to implement the aforementioned tasks.
