Tajikistan’s National Security Committee accuses Kyrgyzstan of border conflict

Servicemen and citizens of Kyrgyzstan grossly violated the state border regime, did not obey the competent authorities that led to an escalation of unrest with dangerous consequences along the state border line. REGNUM reported with reference to the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan.

The State Committee for National Security noted that, despite the measures taken to eliminate the conflict, the situation on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan remains tense.

A conflict occurred between the residents of neighboring villages on the border of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan on March 13 due to start of construction of Ak-Sai — Tamdyk bypass road by Kyrgyz side.

On March 14, Kyrgyzstanis blocked the road from the Tajik enclave Vorukh and began to throw stones at local residents. According to the Tajik side, «in their turn, in order to defend themselves, unarmed Tajiks responded.» Kyrgyz border guards, the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan stresses, opened fire, killing one citizen of Tajikistan, two were wounded.
