The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission adopted Technical Regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union on Safety of Alcoholic Beverages. Press service of EEC reported.
The technical regulations establish safety requirements for alcohol products and conformity assessment procedures that are mandatory for use and enforcement in all EEU member states. It will take effect in two years after its official publication. Such a period will ensure a smooth transition of producers of alcoholic beverages to uniform mandatory requirements.
The technical regulations set safety requirements for alcohol and the processes of its production, storage, transportation, sale and disposal, as well as labeling, packaging, and conformity assessment procedures, which are mandatory for use and enforcement in EEU countries.
The EEU member states will ensure circulation of alcoholic beverages in their territories without additional requirements for those contained in the technical regulations and without additional conformity assessment procedures. The document defines the basic concepts, types and names of alcoholic products and their identification signs. It includes food products manufactured without or with the use of ethyl alcohol made from food raw materials, and (or) alcohol-containing food products with a volume fraction of ethyl alcohol of more than 0.5 percent.
The technical regulations define ethyl alcohol, alcoholic beverages, low-alcoholic beverages, distillates, wine-making, brewing, mead-made products, and alcohol-containing food products as the types of alcoholic products.
The technical regulations say that low alcohol notion is not allowed to be used for alcoholic beverages with a volume fraction of ethyl alcohol of 7 percent or more.
«The document sets clear indicators for the identification of beer and beer beverages, differentiating them by raw material, defines norms for the possibility of replacing malt with grain, use of sugar-containing products in grain raw materials, and use of fruit components,» the message said.
