Health Ministry purchases medicine for treatment of hepatitis C in HIV-positive

The Republican AIDS Center of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan will purchase drugs for the treatment of chronic viral hepatitis C. It will spend 2,817 million soms on the medicines, the state procurement portal said.

The center will acquire daclatasvir 60 mg (180 packs) and sofosbuvir 400 mg (120 packs).

The drugs are intended for the treatment of chronic viral hepatitis C in HIV-positive adults in Kyrgyzstan.

The technical specification states that people living with HIV, who have chronic hepatitis C, are at high risk of development of cirrhosis of the liver and hepatocellular carcinoma.

«Chronic viral hepatitis C is treatable and the infection can be cured, therefore, the development of sequela can be prevented. Viral hepatitis C is treated by direct-acting antiviral drugs. Given that access to identification of the genotype of the hepatitis C virus is difficult in Kyrgyzstan, preference should be given to drugs that are effective against the maximum possible number of genotypes,» the document says.
