First Vice Prime Minister voices problems of domestic agriculture

The First Vice Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov voiced a number of topical problems of domestic agriculture at the round table discussion «Development of Added Value in the Field of Agriculture Business as a Priority for Economic Development of the Kyrgyz Republic.» The press service of the government reported.

According to Boronov, agriculture needs to address a number of urgent problems for further development.

«The first is small- scale commodity. The emergence of households, which own about 400,000 small plots of land, contributed to the appearance of small-scale commodity, heterogeneity of products and reduced competition. The second is the sale of manufactured products. A layer of unscrupulous intermediaries makes profit on the market when buying and selling products, suppressing the interests of the farmers themselves. The third is certification. A serious obstacle in processing and export development is the discrepancy of a part of the products with the certification system,» noted Kubatbek Boronov.

The round table participants stressed that agriculture and food industry were the key sectors of the country’s economy, playing a crucial role in ensuring food security and employment of the population.
