More than 300 Kyrgyzstanis suffer from tick bites

Since the beginning of 2018, at least 312 people turned to hospitals due to tick bites. The Department for Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision provided such data to 24.kg news agency.

According to the department, the largest number of complaints was registered in Chui, Issyk-Kul and Naryn regions, as well as in Bishkek.

There are no confirmed cases of tick-borne encephalitis as of today.

«Every year, the total number of people, who suffered from tick bites, increases. A dangerous season begins with the onset of spring. If in 2010, not more than 285 people applied for help, then in 2017 this number reached 831 (13 cases of tick-borne virus encephalitis),» the department noted.

In connection with the beginning of the epidemic season, the Ministry of Health recommends being vigilant and, if an insect is found, to apply to medical institutions in the place of residence. «In no case one should throw out the tick, but to keep it and carry it to parasitological laboratories to determine a tick type and carry out preventive measures,» experts advise.

Natural foci of tick-borne viral encephalitis have been identified in all climatic zones of Kyrgyzstan.
