Since the beginning of the year, 163 people have turned to medical institutions with tick bites. The Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision of Kyrgyzstan reported.
Most of the cases were registered in Bishkek — 86, Chui and Issyk-Kul regions — 35 each. Five cases were registered in Talas region, in Jalal-Abad and Osh regions — two each.
The department recalled that a tick bite can cause tick-borne encephalitis — an acute infectious viral disease with a primary lesion of the central nervous system.
«In case of tick-borne encephalitis, a person first feels weakness, malaise. After about a week, these symptoms may disappear, but then the second phase begins, which is manifested by severe headaches and high fever. The disease begins acutely, accompanied by chills, severe headache, a sharp rise in body temperature to 38-39 degrees, nausea, and vomiting. The patient has muscle pain, which is most often localized in the neck and shoulders, chest, lower back and limbs. Redness may appear on the face and body due to dilation of small blood vessels,» the department noted.
If you find a tick stuck on your body, you need to seek medical help at any medical center where the tick will be removed. Further, within 72 hours, it is necessary to deliver the tick to the Center for Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision at your place of residence. If necessary, the person will be prescribed immunoglobulin for tick-borne encephalitis.
