Kyrgyzstan plans to tighten punishment for drug trafficking and smuggling

It is planned to tighten the punishment for the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogues or precursors through the customs or the state border of Kyrgyzstan. Amendments to the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan were submitted for public discussion.

Initiator is a deputy of Parliament Mirlan Zheenchoroyev, who notes the consistent aggravation of the drug situation in the country.

In the Kyrgyz Republic, criminal responsibility for the smuggling of narcotic drugs across the border of the Customs Union is minimal and ranges from 3 to 7 years in prison with confiscation of property.

He suggests separating drug smuggling into an article and tighten punishment.

In particular, he proposes to punish for smuggling in a large scale by imprisonment from ten to fifteen years with confiscation of property; for smuggling by an official using his official position — by imprisonment for a period from five to ten years with confiscation of property.

In addition, the deputy notes the increasing frequency of the spread of psychotropic substances, so-called spices, in educational, entertainment, and other leisure facilities. He proposes to punish for this by imprisonment from 15 to 20 years with confiscation of property.

The growth of drug addicts in the adult and adolescent environment adversely affects the overall criminal situation in the republic.
