CEC proposes to introduce criminal punishment for concealing dual citizenship

The Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan proposes to introduce criminal punishment for concealing information about dual citizenship. The member of the commission Gulnara Dzhurabaeva informed 24.kg news agency.

According to her, non-submission of information by a candidate for deputy should be regarded as a submission of deliberately false information.

«The CEC can not by itself check whether a candidate for deputy seat has citizenship of another country. But it is necessary to set that the candidate himself/ herself must submit to the Central Election Commission reliable information, including official answers to inquiries to the relevant services of other states, that he or she is not their citizen. The CEC can register a candidate only if there is a full package of documents,» said Gulnara Dzhurabaeva.

The deputy of Parliament Dastan Bekeshev also offers to punish the deputies and officials for citizenship of another state.

Now the commission is checking whether the ex-head of the Central Election Commission Klara Kabilova has a Russian citizenship. She should come to Parliament on the list of Ata Meken party instead of Aida Salyanova. A corresponding request was sent to the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation.

The issue of dual citizenship again began to be discussed widely after the detention in Almaty during a special operation on February 15-16 of the parliament deputy from Kyrgyzstan faction Asylbek uulu Damirbek. He is named in the smuggling case. The state bodies of Kazakhstan have officially notified the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan that Asylbek uulu Damirbek has the citizenship of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
