Ata Meken deputies urge everyone to defend freedom of speech

Ata Meken parliamentary faction calls on «all the progressive society to defend freedom of speech, human rights, to fight against persecution for political or other reasons." Deputies-socialists made such a statement today.

Members of Ata Meken once again note that their leader Omurbek Tekebayev was arrested with gross violations of the current legislation.

«According to Article 150 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, the basis for initiating a criminal case is the availability of sufficient data indicating the commission of a crime, but in spite of this, the accusation is based on the statement of the citizen of the Russian Federation Leonid Maevskiy alone. Thus, a dangerous precedent is created that will allow arresting any citizen on defamatory evidence without proof. At the same time, the personality of the applicant, who according to media reports is in conflict with the law at home, is not taken into account, and he is also considered as an international swindler," the statement said.

The faction states about a political persecution of opponents of power. And the reason is Tekebayev’s intentions to initiate presidential impeachment.
