Kyrgyzstan hosts meeting-requiem in memory of Sheraly Nazarkulov

Meeting-requiem in memory of the human rights activist Sheraly Nazarkulov took place today in front of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Land Reclamation in Kyrgyzstan.

The human rights defender and journalist died on February 7, 2002 on the 22nd day of his hunger strike, which he announced as a protest against the transfer of Kyrgyz Uzengu-Kuush land to China. He also demanded to release from custody then the MP from Aksy rural district Azimbek Beknazarov.

Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan Kubatbek Otorbaev noted the special contribution of Sheraly Nazarkulov to the human rights work and strengthening of country’s independence. Participants of the meeting watched a film about the human rights defender’s activity.

This event takes place every year.

Relatives, human rights activists, writers came to pay tributes to Sheraly Nazarkulov.
