The Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan is taking measures to reduce excessive sugar consumption by children. The deputy of the Parliament Dastan Bekeshev reported.
The daily sugar consumption norm in schools and kindergartens has been reduced from 50 to 30 grams, the deputy reported, citing the ministry. Instead of tea, school canteens offer dried fruit drink made from local dried fruits without added sugar.
The MP added that in order to reduce excessive sugar consumption, a methodological guide called «Young Gardener» has been developed, which teaches schoolchildren and their parents how to eat healthy.
«Fundamentals of a Healthy Lifestyle» program for primary school students has been introduced in schools across the country, the Ministry of Education reported. According to it, an online course has also been opened to train cooks for educational institutions.
Earlier, Dastan Bekeshev stated that he intended to contact government agencies with an initiative for a large-scale anti-sugar campaign, especially in educational organizations.
