Historian, political scientist, researcher of the history of Central Eurasia and the Middle East Zhar Zardykhan (Kazakhstan) told why the Central Asian states should not be called post-Soviet.
The IV International Conference Esimde — «Post-Communist Central Asia: Space for Reflection» is held in Bishkek.
Speaker Zhar Zardykhan noted that even after 30 years of independence, the former Soviet Union countries continue to call themselves post-Soviet.
«The economic and political systems of Lithuania and Turkmenistan are very different from each other. But we still call ourselves post-Soviet countries. No one in other regions calls themselves that. We do not call Croatia post-Yugoslav, Slovakia post-Czechoslovak, we do not call Bulgaria and Greece post-Osmosman, or India post-British,» Zhar Zardykhan said.
