Expert: Central Asia is a region with high potential for investors

Dean of the School of Economics and Finance at AlmaU University Kassymkhan Kapparov told about the growing interest of investors in the countries of Central Asia, especially Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. According to him, intraregional investments are gaining momentum, and the total volume of trade turnover of the region is rapidly increasing. He stated this at an Investment Forum in Bishkek.

«We see an active penetration of investments into the region, especially in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The potential of Central Asia is growing, and we are trying to study the features of the entrepreneurial culture in order to understand whether there are generational differences among businessmen,» Kasymkhan Kapparov noted.

The expert emphasized that the main value of the region is people. According to him, Central Asia annually increases by 2 million newborns, half of whom are in Uzbekistan and 25 percent in Kazakhstan. The high birth rate makes the region especially attractive to foreign investors.

«The average human development index in the region is higher than the world average, with the exception of remote auls (small settlements) and villages. It is important for us to pull these regions up so that they develop in tune with urbanized centers,» he added.

Kassymkhan Kapparov noted the trend towards mass entrepreneurship and urbanization, which opens up new opportunities for small and medium business. According to him, despite the small number of new cities over the past 30 years, some settlements can become large economic centers.
