The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan receives reports from citizens that false information is being actively disseminated on social media and messaging apps about withdrawal of the so-called «white» dollars from circulation by the National Bank, and that commercial banks and exchange offices allegedly do not accept these bills.
The National Bank reports that this information is not true. Moreover, the National Bank does not have the right to withdraw currencies of other countries, in this case U.S. dollars, from circulation.
«It should be clarified that U.S. dollars issued from 1996 to 2006 are commonly called «white», because they are characterized by a lighter shade,» the National Bank explained.
The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic added that, in accordance with paragraph 14 of the Regulation «On the procedure for conducting exchange transactions with foreign currency in cash in the Kyrgyz Republic», when buying, selling or exchanging foreign currency, banks and exchange offices do not have the right to introduce any restrictions or set different rates depending on the denomination, year of issue of banknotes that have not lost the status of a means of payment.
«If you encounter an unjustified refusal to exchange currency, you can contact the National Bank in writing to take appropriate measures within the framework of the existing regulatory and legal acts of the National Bank,» the National Bank added.
