WNG 2024: Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry comments on conflict in kokpar final

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan commented on the scandal in the kokpar final between the teams of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, which took place as part of the World Nomad Games 2024 in Astana, Tengrinews.kz reports.

The final of the kokpar tournament between the teams of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan took place on September 12. Six minutes before the end of the first half, with the score 1:3 in favor of the Kyrgyz team, a conflict occurred at the hippodrome.

«This is our brotherly country. We have good relations with them. And if any disputes arise in the field of sports, this is just sports. There is no politics here. We have been neighbors for centuries, and we will remain so in the future,» the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Aibek Smadiyarov, said.

Journalists also asked him whether this conflict would affect diplomatic relations between the two countries.

«You saw it yourself, these are brutal men on horses. Naturally, their blood is roiling. It is emotional behavior, nothing terrible, it happens... It will not affect the relationship in any way. This is just one game, and to cross out all our relations with its result is not right in the world,» the official representative of the ministry explained.

Recall, a scuffle occurred in the final of kokpar (zher ulak) tournament at the World Nomad Games in Astana (Kazakhstan), the match was suspended. At the 13th minute of the first half, the Kyrgyzstanis made the score 3:1 in their favor. A player from Kazakhstan, Ulan Baitoreyev, hit a player from the Kyrgyz Republic team, Kubanychbek Sultan uulu, with a whip. A scuffle broke out after that.
