Energy Ministry promises no rolling blackouts in winter, other possible

The Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Ibraev told on the air of on Birinchi Radio about preparations for the heating season.

He called on Kyrgyzstanis to save electricity. According to the official, citizens spend too much of it and therefore, if this continues, we will have problems.

He specified that Kyrgyzstan has crossed a record threshold of electricity consumption.

«We have never had this before. Due to the high air temperature in July, consumption exceeded 40 million kilowatt-hours. Previously, during this period, consumption was not more than 32-35 million kilowatt-hours. I would like to appeal to our consumers and ask them to save electricity if possible. You know that the higher the consumption, the more water we discharge. We need water in the winter during the heating season,» Taalaibek Ibraev said.

He assured that there would be no rolling blackouts in winter, but regulatory measures are possible. According to the minister, rolling blackouts are «when it is announced that there will be no electricity in the morning from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. or noon.»
