Invasion of Kyrgyzstan in 2022: Monument to fallen servicemen unveiled

A monument was erected in military unit No. 7707 of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan in honor of servicemen, who died while performing a combat mission during the armed conflict on Kyrgyzstan — Tajikistan border on September 16, 2022.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the monument was erected in honor of senior sergeants Achylbek Tashbekov and Durusbek Kanybek uulu, sergeant Manas Baatyrbekov and a private Aibek Abdilabekov.

The solemn ceremony began with the laying of flowers and a minute of silence.

The event was attended by parents and relatives of the deceased, veterans, as well as invited guests.

Commander of military unit No. 7707 Ulukbek Dzhumabaev spoke about the importance of perpetuating the feat of servicemen, who showed courage and dedication. «Our servicemen will never be forgotten. Their bravery will go down in history and serve as an example for future generations. The memory of them will live forever,» he said.

Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 206 victims, 63 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes. At least 206 people were injured, 63 died, including servicemen. A state of emergency was declared in Batken region.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
