To ensure updated content in a 12-year school, a 100 percent replacement of 17.4 million textbooks is required for 8.7 billion soms. The draft concept published on the website of the Kyrgyz Academy of Education says.
The calculations were made taking into account that there are 12 textbooks per student.
It is noted that the texts of textbooks are theoretical, over-academic, with a predominantly scientific character and complicated syntax. Practical tasks are minimized and are not aimed at the formation of critical and creative thinking, solving life situation problems. Laboratory work does not allow for independent research. In addition, the books are oversaturated with photos of scientists, their short biographies, dates of birth and death.
«At the same time, textbooks of successful, the best world educational systems have content that simulates real-life situations and causes stimulation and motivation to the learning process,» the draft concept says.
It is specified that in 2024 work began on adapting the best foreign textbooks for schools in Kyrgyzstan on subjects of the natural science cycle on the basis of STEM approach with translation into the state and official languages.
It is not reported how long it will take to completely replace textbooks.
