President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov signed the Law «On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Kyrgyz Republic (to the Criminal Procedure Code, the Law «On the Procedure and Conditions of Detention of Persons Detained on Suspicion and Charge of Committing Crimes»)». The press center of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) reported.
The document was adopted by the Parliament on June 26, 2024. The goal is to facilitate access to information for participants of criminal proceedings, who have vision problems, as well as to create conditions for access to justice.
The law amends the Criminal Procedure Code, providing for the possibility of hiring an assistant to provide social services to a blind participant of criminal proceedings and for his or her participation in the proceedings.
The Law of the Kyrgyz Republic «On the procedure and conditions for the detention of persons arrested on suspicion and charges of committing crimes» has been amended to grant suspects and accused persons with visual disabilities the right to receive and use literature in Braille or large print, audio books, materials on a criminal case prepared by an assistant, as well as devices for playing and recording audio books and materials.
