Bishkek HPP to receive half as much imported coal in 2024

This year, the Bishkek heating and power plant (HPP) will receive half as much imported coal as in 2023. Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev announced at a press conference.

He told that 2.6 million tons of solid fuel are currently needed, of which:

  • 312,200 tons — for budget-funded institutions;
  • 1,334.9 million tons — for the needs of the population;
  • 1 million tons — for the Bishkek HPP;
  • 100,800 tons — for Kyrgyzzhilkomenergo.

Taalaibek Ibraev added that this year it is planned to import only 250,000 tons of coal for the heating season to the capital’s HPP, and 750,000 tons will be supplied from Min-Kush open-pit mine. According to him, President Sadyr Japarov instructed the ministry to stop importing solid fuel for the Bishkek HPP within three years and use only domestic fuel. The official emphasized that Kyrgyzstan needs 55,300 tons of fuel oil in 2024.
