President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov arrives in Astana to attend SCO summit

President Sadyr Japarov arrived in Astana for a working visit. The President’s plane landed at N. Nazarbayev International Airport on July 3. The press service of the head of state reported.

President Sadyr Japarov was met by the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov and other officials.

As part of his working visit, Sadyr Japarov will take part in a meeting of the Council of SCO Heads of State.

The SCO summit, which began in Astana under Kazakhstan’s chairmanship, is expected to be attended by heads of state and government from 16 countries. The summit will be held under the slogan «Strengthening Multilateral Dialogue — Striving for Sustainable Peace and Development.»

  • Kyrgyzstan: President Sadyr Japarov;
  • Pakistan: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif;
  • Russia: President Vladimir Putin;
  • Tajikistan: President Emomali Rahmon;
  • Türkiye: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan;
  • Turkmenistan: President Serdar Berdimuhamedov;
  • Uzbekistan: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev;
  • Belarus: President Alexander Lukashenko;
  • Mongolia: President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh;
  • Azerbaijan: President Ilham Aliyev;
  • Qatar: Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani;
  • UAE: President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan;
  • India: Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar;
  • Iran: Interim Head of State Mohammad Mokhber

Representatives of international organizations, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, CIS Secretary-General Sergei Lebedev and CSTO Secretary-General Imangali Tasmagambetov, as well as SCO Secretary-General, Chinese diplomat Zhang Ming are also present at the summit.

The SCO was officially created in June 2001 on the basis of the so-called Shanghai Five, which existed since 1996, consisting of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Currently, nine countries are members of the SCO. Belarus will become the new full-fledged, tenth member of the SCO this year. After the Astana summit, China will take over the charimanship of the organization.
