UN Secretary-General concerned about risks of escalation in the Gaza Strip

«The most terrible thing we face today is the Gaza Strip,» UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said at a meeting with President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov at the state residence in Cholpon-Ata city.

According to him, it is necessary to conduct a thorough analysis of the conflict in Gaza.

«There are no weapons or armies there, but there is systematic bombing, which led to huge losses and destruction. And this must be put an end to. It is for this reason that we have been asking for a ceasefire from the very beginning, the release of the hostages and access to humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza,» the UN Secretary-General said.

He expressed concern about the risk of escalation and noted that Lebanon should not become another Gaza Strip. «This is unacceptable for the international community, we hope for peace,» António Guterres said.

Meeting of President Sadyr Japarov with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who arrived on a visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, took place at the state residence in Cholpon-Ata on July 2.

Recall, UN Secretary-General António Guterres went on a tour of Central Asian countries. He will visit Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. In each of the states, the Secretary-General will meet with the president and other senior government officials, as well as familiarize himself with projects related to the fight against climate change and talk to local activists.
