The municipal enterprise hopes that this volume will ensure an uninterrupted supply of drinking water to the southwestern part of the city.
Recall, restrictions on the supply of drinking water were introduced in Bishkek in the summer of 2023, and entire residential areas were left without it for more than a month. This has never happened in the capital. Residents of Selektsionnoye village even held rallies and blocked the Southern highway.
The former vice-mayor of the city, Zhyrgalbek Shamyraliev, then explained that the water level in the rivers had decreased, and there was no water at all in Ala-Archa at the end of May. «And if there is no water, then the pools that feed Orto-Alysh water intake also dry up and the static level of the water table drops,» he said.
One of the ways to solve the water problem was to transfer 4 hectares of land near Bash-Karasuu water intake to Bishkek for drilling new wells.
