About 11 billion cubic meters of water will be supplied to Kazakhstan via Syr Darya River. According to the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the republic will receive this volume by April 2025.
The agreement was reached at a meeting of the interstate coordinating water management commission. Representatives of water departments of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan took part in the discussion. Kyrgyzstan received observer status.
This agreement will provide the necessary volume of water for Shardarya reservoir, which will allow to prepare for the 2025 irrigation season in the southern regions of Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, forecasts for the operating modes of reservoirs on Syr Darya and Amu Darya rivers were approved, as well as water supply limits for Central Asian countries in the autumn-winter period of 2024-2025.
Nurzhan Nurzhigitov noted the importance of efficient distribution of water resources and successful implementation of agreements on water and energy cooperation with Kyrgyzstan.
