Few funds allocated for green economy development in Kyrgyzstan - deputy

Only $29 million was allocated for the development of the green economy in Kyrgyzstan from 2013 to 2020. Deputy Chingiz Aidarbekov said at a meeting of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense, Security and Migration of the Parliament.

According to him, in recent years more than $1 billion has been attracted in Kazakhstan, $500 million in Uzbekistan, and $200 million in Tajikistan.

«$29 million was attracted in Kyrgyzstan for the implementation of about 4,000 projects. Just calculate how much money is spent on one project, if you divide it, it’s not even $1,000,» the deputy said.

He noted that many different institutions operate in Kyrgyzstan, but none of them is useful. He called for strengthening work in this direction.

Today, November 27, the Committee on International Affairs, Defense, Security and Migration considered and approved in the first reading the bill «On ratification of the agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Global Green Growth Institute» regarding the legal status, privileges and immunities of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), signed on April 27, 2023.

Information about the bill was provided by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce Ainura Usenbaeva.

The goal of the project is to promote cooperation between the parties on the basis of equality and reciprocity, which will further serve the development of the green economy in Kyrgyzstan and the mobilization of financial resources for projects aimed at green economic growth.

The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is an international intergovernmental organization established in 2012. GGGI aims to promote a model of green economic growth that simultaneously focuses on economic performance and environmental sustainability.
