Five micro-reserves will be created in Kyrgyzstan. Center for Civil Initiatives Leader Public Association (Karakol, Issyk-Kul region) reported.
In order to implement the project, pilot local communities have been selected to create micro-reserves and nature conservation facilities of local importance. The selected areas will become the focus of the project, which will actively support their development, provide advisory assistance, develop the necessary documentation, carry out work on fencing the areas and install information signs and other means of ensuring safety and preserving the unique nature of these places.
Project manager Banur Abdieva noted that the importance of local community participation and support for small grants programs are stressed on the example of a micro-reserve. «We actively support biological diversity, including rare species of fauna and flora in the range of our reserves. It is extremely important to note the role of women in this process. Women elected through a special quota to local government bodies play a key role in our initiatives. Thanks to their participation and financial support from local authorities, we can successfully implement our projects,» she said.
It is planned to organize eight micro-reserves throughout the country, five of them within a year. The project begins with a key area in Batken region.
Expanding the Concept of Micro-Reserves in Kyrgyzstan project is also aimed at preparing an information and methodological base.
