Kyrgyzstan limits visa-free regime for foreign citizens: MFA’s commentary

The authorities of Kyrgyzstan decided to introduce restrictions for foreign citizens who are subject to a visa-free regime. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

According to it, the Cabinet of Ministers approved regulations on the procedure for the stay of foreign citizens on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.

«This provision provides for a number of the following innovations — the abolition of visa run. The practice in which foreign citizens often travel outside the country and return back in order to extend their stay on the territory of the republic will now be limited by the introduction of a visa-free regime based on «60/120» principle,» the statement says.

As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, when using a visa-free regime for a period of up to 60 days, re-entry for the corresponding category of foreigners will now be possible only after 60 days from «the moment of the previous departure from the country.»

«For citizens who can visit Kyrgyzstan visa-free for up to 90 days, the terms will be calculated according to the 90/180 principle,» the ministry informed.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends foreigners «to plan their stay in advance» on the territory of the state and, if necessary, «obtain the appropriate permits.»

«The ministry stresses that the changes reflect the desire of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic to ensure more effective management of migration flows and improve the overall security in the country,» the statement says.
