Kyrgyzstan to take out $95 million loan for reconstruction of highway in Talas

The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan ratified in the first reading an agreement for $95 million with three international donors on the project for the reconstruction of Suusamyr — Talas — Taraz highway, phase IV.

It should be noted that the Cabinet of Ministers takes a loan from the Islamic Development Bank ($50 million), the Saudi Fund for Development ($30 million) and the OPEC Fund for International Development ($15 million) for implementation of the project.

The total cost of the project is $105 million. The Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic will allocate $10 million. The length of the reconstructed road in Talas region is 93 kilometers.

The head of the Ministry of Transport, Tilek Tekebayev, noted that the project was supposed to be implemented in 2025-2027.

«We are ahead of schedule. If we ratify the agreement, we will begin the reconstruction of the road in 2024 and finish it in two years,» the minister said.
