1,500 doctors quit their hospital job for year in Kyrgyzstan

At least 1,771 doctors and 4,260 specialists with secondary medical education were employed in healthcare organizations in 2022, while 1,592 doctors and 3,908 specialists with secondary medical education quit their job. The press center of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan provided the information to 24.kg news agency.

According to it, 29 doctors and 118 nurses left the republic.

The staffing level in hospitals was 87.4 percent (doctors) and 94.5 percent — nursing staff.

According to statistics as of January 1 of this year, medical care was provided to the population by 13,669 doctors (20.1 per 10,000 people) and 33,564 specialists with secondary medical education (49.9 per 10,000 people). This is less than in 2021.

«There is a real shortage of medical personnel in the healthcare system. We often receive requests from young professionals. In such cases, they are redirected to healthcare organizations for further consideration,» the ministry explained.

The Ministry of Health cannot directly influence employment; in each case of hiring, heads of healthcare organizations take into account qualification requirements (diploma, experience, length of service as a specialist, etc.).

Deputy of the Parliament Nadira Narmatova asked the Minister of Health to give her relative a job at the National Center of Cardiology and Therapy named after Academician Mirrakhimov.

The press center of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic clarified that in the conversation the minister and deputy discussed the shortage of medical personnel in the republic’s health care system, and stressed that the National Center of Cardiology and Therapy does not need general surgery specialists.
