President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov met with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) within the framework of his working visit to New York (USA).
They discussed issues of further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation with the IMF, as well as the development of the global economic situation.
The head of state noted that Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to partnership with the IMF, which in turn provides constant support in promoting structural reforms and in general in the development of the country’s economy. He stressed that in recent years the effects of climate change have become more visible around the world. This is one of the most important issues on the global agenda and requires structural changes for the transition to a green economy.
Special attention was paid to the energy sector of the Kyrgyz Republic. It was noted that in the next five years a whole program of large-scale projects will be implemented to significantly increase the capacity and reconstruction of the main generating capacities with the construction of new HPPs.
Sadyr Japarov stated that to date Kyrgyzstan uses only 13 percent of water and energy resources of the country, being a republic rich in water resources. The Kyrgyz Republic will launch from 50 to 100 small HPPs by its own efforts and with the help of investors in the coming years, 16 of them by the end of the year.
The President emphasized Kyrgyzstan’s interest in developing green initiatives, including with international organizations.
In addition, he touched on the issue of digitalization, noting that in recent years, the country, like many other developing countries, has seen a steady trend of introduction of digital technologies in the financial sector.
