Amendments have been made to the Criminal Procedure Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. The President signed the corresponding law.
The document was adopted by the Parliament on June 29, 2023 in order to prevent manifestations of corruption and conflicts of interest during pre-trial proceedings by the prosecutor’s office, to ensure the principle of checks and balances in the system of law enforcement agencies by excluding the powers of the prosecutor’s office to conduct an investigation.
Amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code provide for norms that exclude the functions of the prosecutor’s office to conduct investigations and transfer them to investigators of the internal affairs and national security bodies, with the exception of the investigation of criminal cases committed by military personnel, as well as those called up for military service, the investigation of which is carried out by investigators of the military prosecutor’s office.
This law comes into force from the day of its official publication.
Sadyr Japarov also signed amendments to the Law on the Prosecutor’s Office of the Kyrgyz Republic.
